Everything in a baby's life is new. With each new experience, the brain has the mission to organize and catalog information. Sleep is fundamental in this process: according to scientists, children between six and eight months of age are able to associate a meaning to a word, but only after taking a nap.
Two very similar, but not identical, fictional objects were created, which were given the names Bofel and Zuser. In the morning, and after a teaching phase, the babies' brain responses showed that they did not recognize the new Bofel object as a Bofel, even though this was the same Bofel to which they had been previously exposed.xpostos.
After the nap, however, babies were able to distinguish the names of new objects through a basic acquisition of reasoning inherent in all human beings: that of generalization. Seeing a Bofel like the morning Bofel, the babies recognized the object and gave it the right name.rto.
The babies who remained awake, in turn, continued to be unable to generalize and associate one Bofel with the other.

2. Rest time directly influences learning
That is, the longer the naps, the more information is assimilated:sleep and learning are directly related!
The N400 is the brain response recorded in adults or children over the age of five when they learn the meaning of a new word.
In this study, brain readings of babies who slept 50 minutes or more recorded the same component. It's official: after the siesta, a new concept was even learned.
Babies who slept 30 minutes or less, however, were only able to associate the sound of the word with the image of the object, but did not create meaning for the word itself.
The results demonstrate that even young children can memorize the meaning of words in the long term, much earlier than we might think: even if the brain structures relevant to this type of memory are not fully mature, they can and should be used and encouraged.
3. Babies > speed of light
Or almost.
Comparing it with other forms of development, which take months to be consolidated, the researchers argue that language development can take place in a matter of minutes, in fast motion during sleep.o.
Which is how to say, super fast.
It is important to stress, even so, that these babies were exposed to a great amount of information in a reduced space of time, with the sharing of concepts normally carried out in a much more spaced way.
However, this fact shows us something that, intuitively, we already knew: the more we talk to our children as adults, introducing them to new words, reading them stories and expanding their vocabulary, the more we are stimulating their knowledge.o.
